Skiing in Kirkwood

With 58 percent of the terrain designated for advanced and expert skiers you can bet who will best enjoy Kirkwood, although there are runs for everyone. Intermediates can enjoy 30 percent of Kirkwood's wide-open terrain and beginners have 12 percent of the terrain to experience.

Beginner Skiing in Kirkwood:

Kirkwood Ski Resort offers great options for beginner skiers, especially around the Timber Creek base, which is perfect for those starting out. The area is quieter and less developed than Mountain Village, providing a more relaxed atmosphere. Beginner-friendly green slopes like those off the bunny and Snowkirk lifts are ideal for newcomers, with the bunny runs being slightly easier and shorter. These slopes offer gentle terrain, making them perfect for learning the basics without overwhelming flat sections that can cause beginners to get stuck.

The resort features a convenient free shuttle service connecting all parking areas and both base areas, so getting around is easy even if you don't park near the slopes. Timber Creek also offers the TC Express chair, which accesses some of the easiest blue runs, great for those ready to take on a bit more challenge. Kirkwood's friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available for tips and recommendations to enhance your skiing experience.

Expert Skiing in Kirkwood:

Kirkwood Ski Resort is a haven for intermediate and expert skiers looking for a challenge. Intermediate skiers can warm up on Kirkwood's blue runs, featuring ungroomed spots with bumps, perfect for practicing before stepping up to black diamonds. For those transitioning to black runs, Ridge Bowl is a great choice—short, open, and with a good view before you drop in. As you gain confidence, the Milky Way Bowl offers a slightly tougher test.

For experts, Kirkwood's black diamonds are a must-try, but be prepared for steep pitches and bumps. Powderbowl Woods provides a less steep, tree-lined black run, making it a gentler option. However, caution is advised with Pistol and West Bowl, which are tougher than they seem. For double black diamond thrill seekers, Gunbarrel and East Bowl are good picks, with Gunbarrel offering a steeper challenge that currently feels more like a single black due to the soft snow.
