How to get to Rusutsu Ski Resort

To get to Rusutsu Resort in Japan, the closest airport is New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Sapporo, about 50 miles from the resort. The drive takes approximately an hour and 40 minutes and private transfers can be arranged from New Chitose Airport (CTS) to Rusutsu Resort. If you prefer flexibility, renting a car from the airport is another option. Also, consider the “Rusutsu Resort Shuttle Bus” that operates from the airport. It’s a convenient option for families and groups, costing around ¥3,500 JPY ($25 USD) per person.

Traveling between the resort hotels is a breeze with convenient monorail and shuttle bus services. The resort is also pedestrian friendly.

Skiing in Rusutsu Ski Resort

The reason why Rusutsu’s tree skiing is notable, particularly for snowboarders, is the continuous, fall-line pitch and easy accessibility from the lifts, which reduces unpleasant traversing and allows the skier or rider to get more turns in. Nothing is too steep in the trees, so it’s also a great place for intermediate skiers and riders to start trying out powder skiing—plus, the light, abundant snow is very forgiving.

Like Niseko, the winter weather in Rusutsu is cold and snowy, which is why conditions are almost always stellar.
