There’s nothing quite like making turns as the sun sets or lapping the terrain park under a full moon. Night skiing is magical and not to be missed. While night skiing is quite common on the East coast, not as many resorts out West provide lights to illuminate the trails after the sun has gone down. Here are some that do:
Keystone, Colorado
Offering one of the longest ski days in Colorado, Keystone night skiing consists of about 15 runs and two lifts: the River Run Gondola and the Peru Express, which are open until 8 p.m. on most weekends December through February. In March, night skiing happens just about every night.
Squaw Valley, California
Skiers can enjoy the moonlit Sierras from Squaw Valley’s slopes from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays throughout January, February, and March, subject to weather and conditions.
Park City Mountain, Utah
From late December to late March, Park City skiers and riders can schuss beneath the stars until 6 p.m.
Steamboat Resort, Colorado
Steamboat keeps five trails open from the top of Christie Peak, which offers 1,100 vertical feet of skiing. Mid-December through mid-February, skiers can make turns from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and from mid-February to the end of March, they can ski until 9 p.m.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Idaho
From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., skiers and riders can shred Schweitzer sans sun. The Basin Express high-speed quad and Musical Chairs double. The Stomping Grounds Terrain Park is open as well.
Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana
Carve under the lights or practice your best jibs on Whitefish’s terrain parks, which are aglow from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sundance is awash in light for night skiing. Lit-up runs include Top Gun, Montoya, Stampede, Maverick and the Terrain park.
Snow King, Jackson, Wyoming
Monday through Sunday, Snow King Resort—located in downtown Jackson—is open until 7 p.m. for night skiing. While there, make some more fun memories on Snow King’s Cowboy Coaster or zoom down the King Tubes snow tubing lanes.
Tips for night skiing

- Wear clear or lighter goggle lenses at night
- Watch the sunset
- Take advantage of other on-mountain night activities, like snow tubing, snow biking, special dinners, and more
