What’s your motivation to book a ski vacation? For some Ski.com clients, their impetus is a big storm. Now that we’re just past the halfway point for this ski season, here’s your guide to the ski resorts with the best snow right now:
Chase the snow to Canada
Canada is good bet for scoring great snow conditions through the rest of the ski season. During the first six weeks of 2015, the storm track has been funneling storms across British Columbia. Whistler Blackcomb has received two feet of new snow in February, and, while it has been warmer at lower elevations, alpine-level runs have perfect, dry powder.
Powder Highway ski resorts have tallied big storm totals this month. Revelstoke just wrapped up a snowy weekend with the brunt of the storm bearing down on Friday and the seven-day total adding up to 37.4 inches. Kicking Horse skiers scored 16 inches of new snow on Saturday, and the weekend’s storm total topped 30 inches*.
Alberta to the east has reaped the rewards of these storms with Banff and Lake Louise ski resorts receiving more than two feet of snow in the last nine days.
Jackson Hole is a storm magnet
While other resorts to their north and south have been missing storms, someone keeps putting quarters in the Wyoming snow machine… As of Feb. 9, Jackson Hole has received 34 inches this month, and, as our man on the ground reported last week, the ski resort has really amazing conditions. Another storm this week could bring up to 13 inches of additional snow.
East Coast ski resorts have seen storm after storm
The Northeast has been battered with storm after storm in 2015, and the trend continues this week. Vermont ski resorts are coming off another weekend of powder days, with Stowe stacking up 27 inches, Okemo pushing 40 inches and Killington reporting almost 45 inches in February*. The [snow] surf’s up for snowboarders at Sunday River with 29 inches in the last nine days. This week’s forecast calls for more refills and very cold conditions. While city-dwellers might be a little tired of the constant winter weather, the forecast is music to our skier ears!
Recent storms have transformed Europe’s ski season
Following a warm, dry spell just after the holidays, the Alps and the Pyranees have seen heavy snowfall recently. French resort Val d’Isere received almost two feet of new snow last week, and Swiss resorts including Zermatt have great coverage. In Italy, storms tracked over the western ski resorts in the Alps, and Cervinia has the best conditions with a 100-inch base. In Austria, conditions are also excellent with Tyrol resorts like Kitzbuhel boasting some of the deepest snow.
