A Memorable Stay at Bear Claw Condominiums in Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs holds a special place in my heart after my recent trip with my 10-year-old son, Parker. It was his first mogul skiing competition, and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay than Bear Claw Condominiums. From the convenience of the location to the warm hospitality, every aspect of our trip was truly unforgettable.

Arrival and Convenience

We made the drive from Aspen early in the morning and arrived ready to hit the slopes. Even though our room understandably wasn’t ready that morning, Bear Claw’s setup made everything so easy. We parked, unloaded, changed into our ski gear, and were on the mountain in no time.

After a few hours of skiing, we effortlessly skied back right up to the condo’s boot room and then grabbed our keys from the front desk. The thoughtful design of Bear Claw stood out immediately: right outside the elevator on our floor, lockers for each unit made it simple to store ski equipment.

The Perfect Home Base

Our two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo was spacious and cozy, overlooking the pool and hot tub area. While our unit wasn’t listed as having a slopeside view, we had a stunning view of the Steamboat Gondola and could even see the mogul course where Parker would compete. The condo was well-equipped, making it feel like a home away from home.

For Parker, the highlight was the pool and hot tubs. The large, heated pool, almost as warm as the hot tubs, was a delightful treat after a day of skiing. And the fact that we could enjoy drinks poolside from the adjacent lounge added a touch of luxury to our stay.

Exploring Steamboat

Our ski-in ski-out location allowed us to take our time in the mornings, avoiding the hassle of parking or shuttles. We started skiing around 9:45, heading straight to the Steamboat Gondola for a day of mogul practice.

One thing that struck us about Steamboat was how efficient the mountain’s lift system is. The new 8-person Wild Blue Gondola—the longest and fastest in North America—is a game-changer, transporting skiers from the base to the top in just 13 minutes. This incredible infrastructure meant more time on the slopes and less time waiting in lines.

By early afternoon, Parker decided to save his legs for the following day’s competition. We skied back to the condo for lunch, taking full advantage of the convenience of our location. Though it would have been easy to head back out for more skiing, Parker opted for another long soak in the hot tubs instead—and I couldn’t blame him.

Dining Delights

Steamboat’s dining scene didn’t disappoint. Using Bear Claw’s shuttle app, we effortlessly scheduled rides to two incredible restaurants. Our first stop was the very casual Antonio’s New York Pizza, where Parker enjoyed pizza while I savored Storm Peak Brewing’s local beers on tap.

The next evening, we dined at my favorite Steamboat spot: the Ore House Restaurant. Known for its Prime Rib and legendary salad bar, the Ore House lived up to its reputation. I couldn’t resist the Prime Rib, while Parker devoured a delicious French Dip. The meal, complete with their famous house potato, was the perfect way to end the day.

The Big Day

Competition day arrived, and Bear Claw’s unbeatable location made the morning stress-free. At 7:50 a.m., we walked out of the boot room, skied down to the base, and arrived at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club facility with time to spare before the 8 a.m. registration. Parker and his Aspen Valley Ski Club teammates competed alongside talented skiers from Steamboat Springs, Winter Park, and Summit County. While Park didn’t make the podium, I couldn’t have been prouder of his effort and sportsmanship during his first-ever competition.
