The main difference between the Epic Pass and Ikon pass is which ski resorts you’re able to visit, either for unlimited or a set number of days, that season. Each pass offers a variety of tiers and depending on which type of pass you purchase, more days at additional resorts are included. Both passes grant access to international resorts, and in North America, the Epic Pass services 29 resorts alone and the Ikon Pass qualifies for 38.

The Epic Pass and Ikon Pass each grant access to different resorts, and there is no overlap when it comes to mountain access. There is some overlap between the products for things like access and blackout dates, passholder benefits and the ability to purchase lift tickets for friends at a discounted rate. In addition to discounts on passes for resorts outside those that are listed, both the Ikon Pass and Epic Ppass offer additional benefits like purchases on food and beverages.

For the 2022-2023 winter season, the full Ikon Pass was more expensive than the full Epic Pass. The final price of the Epic Pass was $949, and the final price of the Ikon Pass was $1,179. Both passes the least expensive when they go on sale in the spring and get more expensive as the season gets closer.

Both also offer different, less-expensive options based on the access. If you sign up for the To The Mountains newsletter, you’ll be the first to know when passes go on sale and when prices change, that way you can decide on the best time to purchase

An unlimited one-day Epic Pass including peak dates begins at $129 for an adult and $66 for a child.
Epic Pass is now on sale for the 2024-25 season and can be purchased through December.
The current price for an adult Ikon Pass for the 2023-24 season iss $1,259. Prices fluctuate throughout the time it is for sale each season, and there are different tiers of access you can purchase that vary the price as well.

Deciding between the Epic Pass or Ikon Pass depends on how they will be used, including how often you plan to ski and where. Technically, the Epic Pass offers more access to a larger number of different resorts, however, in the long run, it comes down to personal preference and winter vacation planning from season to season.

Each pass also offers different tiers with a different number of days per resort, some with and without blackout dates, and there is an option to buy multi-day passes as well. Our Mountain Travel Experts at Ski.com can help walk you through the different options and decide which pass is best for you.

With the Ikon Pass, you can ski 34 different resorts in the states of California, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
With the Epic Pass, you can ski 37 different resorts in the states of California, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
Yes, with the purchase of an Epic Pass you have an unlimited number of days to over 25 resorts in North America alone, and then unlimited days at Andermatt-Sedrun Resort in Switzerland, as well as Australian resorts Perisher, Falls Creek and Hotham beginning in 2023.
Big Sky resort is on the Ikon Pass with either 5 or 7 days of skiing depending on which pass you purchase.

Nobody gets why you crave time in the mountains more than we do, and nobody knows how to guide you there better.
