Canadian borders reopened for travel a little over a year ago, in August 2021. While this encouraged travel to the Great White North, there were still several Covid-19 related requirements in place to help mitigate the spread of the virus. However, per an announcement yesterday, Sept. 26, beginning on Oct. 1, 2022, all restrictions and requirements travelers have had to adhere to for Covid safety will be lifted.
Previously, travelers were subject to random testing when entering the country, responsible for uploading their health information into the ArriveCAN app and expected to quarantine should they test positive or show symptoms upon arrival.
Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, said this decision means masks will also no longer be required on travel in planes or trains, but health officials continue to strongly recommend travelers wear them. The decision to lift requirements comes in large part from Canada’s 85% vaccination rate as well as a decrease in deaths from the virus.
The biggest takeaway from all of this is how it’s making travel up to Canada even easier. Now, rather than being concerned or frazzled about forgetting a Covid requirement prior to entry, you can dedicate your energy to what truly matters—enjoying the Canadian wilderness and making lifelong memories.
