Starting today, the weather window is officially open for the most anticipated free ride competition in all of North America.
For the third year in a row, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will host the invitation only, Kings & Queens of Corbet’s this week (weather permitting). The field, which is made up of some 24 skiers and riders, includes some of the world’s most elite snow sports athletes. In past years, winners have included Travis Rice, Karl Fostvedt, and Caite Zeliff.

While the contest format remains “peer-judged,” spectators will appreciate small changes to the venue including a couple new features towards the bottom of the namesake couloir.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for big name newcomers such as Sam Kuch (Powder Awards ‘Line Of The Winter’) and Arianna Tricomi (Freeride World Tour Champion) to throw down big lines in a venue that’s relatively new to them both.
When Will The Event Go Down?
As of Monday morning, the event organizers have announced that today will not be the day. If this NOAA weather forecast is accurate, the first rider will enter North America’s most challenging inbounds run first thing, tomorrow morning. Just so happens last year’s Queen, Caite Zeliff will also be this year’s guinea pig.
What Will Win?
Hard to say. Each year has been wildly different than the last with contestants going bigger and bigger each year. Two years ago, Karl Fostvedt threw a butter 720 off the lip of Corbet’s to win 1st and the following year was one upped by a widly clean 540 by the Jackson Hole local, Travis Rice. Rumors of a triple backflip continue to circulate throughout Teton Village.
