Even the old timers in Colorado haven’t seen this level of freezing in October. According to the National Weather Service, Denver’s Wednesday morning temperature of 3°F is the new record low for October 30.
All that cold and snow is great news for skiers and riders throughout the state as 6 ski areas in Colorado will be open this Halloween weekend.

Earlier this week, Monarch Mountain, Winter Park and Wolf Creek announced they’d crash the early season powder party by joining Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, and Keystone as the only operational ski areas in Colorado.
72 Hour Snowfall Totals:
- Monarch Mountain – 17″
- Loveland – 10″
- Arapahoe Basin – 8″
- Winter Park – 8″
- Keystone – 6″
- Wolf Creek – 5″
At Arapahoe Basin, Al’s Blog has been teasing their summit opening all week and by looking at the photo evidence, they’re getting awful close.

Other ski areas we’ve got our eyes on for early openings include Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and perhaps Vail. Just keep those snow dances going and we’ll have some unbelievable coverage come Thanksgiving.
