About Madesimo

Madesimo is located in the Spluga Valley of the Italian Alps—a province of Sondrio in the Lombardy region—and is part of the Valchiavenna ski area. The Lombardy region is known as the richest province in Italy and for having the most UNESCO World Heritage sites. Offering more than 37 miles of downhill slopes and 12.5 miles of cross-country trail, Madesimo ski resort is the largest of the Valchiavenna ski area, which includes Cam podolcino, Val di Lei, Motta and Montespluga.


Visit during the colder months, when it transforms into a snow-covered paradise with 24 miles of ski slopes, night skiing, snowboarding and unique activities like snowkiting. The Valchiavenna Ski Area, with its modern facilities and stunning alpine scenery, ensures a memorable experience for skiers of all levels. Those who don’t ski or are looking for a day off the slopes can enjoy sledding, ice skating and snowmobiling during their Madesimo ski vacation. How to get to Madesimo

For those cruising up from Milan, hop onto the Strada Statale 36 dello Spluga toward Lecco-Chiavenna. If you're coming from the northeast, take the scenic route via Strada Statale 38 through Sondrio-Morbegno, then merge onto SS 36 to Madesimo. Just remember, winter calls for snow tires or chains to tackle the snowy roads.


International travelers, your route changes with the seasons. From May to November, the scenic Spluga Pass is your gateway, while winter routes take you through the Julier and Maloja Passes. No car? No problem! Shuttle services from Chiavenna and local transport make it easy to reach Madesimo. With Milan just 86.37 miles away, Lecco 52.82 miles, and Zurich 118.68 miles, this charming mountain escape is super accessible.

Getting around

The town offers a convenient network of free shuttle buses that connect key locations, making it easy to explore without a car.
